Material Handling Robot's End of Arm Tooling Design

SUMMARY

Designed new end of arm tooling for a FANUC material handling robot (MHR) at a spot welding workstation.
Why?
The current MHR cannot access the BTM Press Machine inside the workstation, so the operator has to manually move the part to the loading fixture

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Newly designed MHR can access all machines within the workstation, reducing 4 seconds per cycle from the operator loading cycle time

  • Improved station efficiency, enabling single-operator functionality → $100 000 CAD in annual savings when one operator is reduced in the day and afternoon shift
